Respected acharya Ji
Pranam in your feet’s .
Acharyaji I have strong faith in ancient Hindu knowledge and its vast ocean . but unfortunately we do not have easy access to that great knowledge and we often lured by TV chhap /park chhap babas . in today’s time when we are surrounded by so much of pressure tension pollution and adulteration we can’t stay healthy at all without adopting yoga and ayurveda .
Acharyaji I want to know for how much days/months/ years I need to practice nadi shodhan and for what duration so that I can start doing kapalbhati and bhastrika pranayam ?
It will be a great help for me and people like me if u put some light over diet during nadi shodhan period too .
Waiting eagerly for your priceless advice …
Mayank
Beloved Mayank,
There are varied opinions even in the standard yoga-books from ancient rishis/yogis about how many years one should practice nadi-shodhan however I shall answer you with what is followed in most of the authentic traditions.
It takes the minimum of 3 months to complete Nadi-Shodhan, when a practitioner engages in this process of nadi-shodhan 4 times a day (in 24 hours). Each time practitioner has to do certain minimum number of breathing cycles and this one sitting takes around 10-20 minutes per sitting as per your lung-capacity. During Nadi-Shodhan the practitioner has to observe Yam and Niyam and feed on saatvic food. I am not describing the complete process as you have to learn to apply bandhas during this process and you should learn it from a Yogi, or a teacher face to face. If you happen to come across any Tattva Shakti Vigyaan Initiation Camp and are serious about learning it you may choose to join the camp.
From your question it seems your focus is on “How soon I can start doing Kapalbhati and Bhastrika” (smiles) but my question is what for? You are thinking of doing kapalbhati and bhastrika just to stay healthy I suppose. But I tell you for health purpose Nadishodhan is more than enough. If possible learn nauli-dhauti and neti. Do shankh-prakkshaalan twice a year and you would have done your bit.
The priceless advice is – Be vegetarian, drink lots of water, Plant and save trees, take public transport, walk when distances are walkable, don’t waste paper, don’t litter, fast once a week, watch sun and moon, respect people, stay in control, pray for others (smiles) : All this will lead you to health,
And yes! We should definitely do the best in our capacity to stay healthy rest is in His hands because He shall keep finding new ways to give us back our karmas anyway..
Shivoham!
