Shivoham!
You are asking this question with a fixated view that most of the tantric practices are surely ‘harmful’. So let me first bust this myth around Tantra. Tantra means system of things, functions and way of organizing some elements in a meaningful way that serves a purpose (good or bad is a relative term). If you are from India, USA or any other democratic country you would know what ‘democracy’ it is termed as – Loka-tantra. In the same way our body has many systems such as digestive system, nervous system, skeletal system and you would be amazed to know what these systems are called in Hindi (Sanskrit being the root of it) respectively – Paachan-Tantra, Snaayu-Tantra, Kankaal-Tantra. So you can drop the fear about this word – Tantra. Now we can talk about the Tantra (that you are referring to here).
Tantra is a practical, esoteric system of managing inner and outer energies with a final goal of experiencing the union of Shiva (Existence) – Shakti (Consciousness). Now this system requires a practitioner to follow a way of life, modulate his/her everyday conduct to conserve one’s energies, attain stillness of body-mind while focusing on increasing one’s capacity to be able to resonate one’s inner energies in unison with elements of cosmic-matrix. For this there are innumerable practices and practical systems laid out by ancient Tantra Masters and adepts. Some great authorities on Tantra have commented that there are more than 64 Systems of Tantra.
Whatever the number of Tantric systems be, once you follow a system of Tantra under the guidance of a Master, gradually you get proficient in modulating your individual vibrations with the cosmic patterns. The processes use body, breath, sound, light, power of constellations, Sun, Moon, Fire, Vortices of energies on this planet, intention, mantras, articles, herbs, gems, medicines, sexual energies and yogic practices etc. that are handed out to the student by teacher. The words of teacher are the final authority in Tantra. so by consistently following the instructions of your teacher with faith and devotion there comes a time you can then transcend your limited being. The individual capacities then do not remain limited to the capacities of your sense-organs, individual mind, intellect or power of knowing. Such a perfected practitioner of Tantra becomes far more capable of influencing this visible-perceptible Tattvic-Matrix of elements thus can perform deeds which defy (seemingly so because even these deeds follow certain cosmic laws) the laws of causality (cause-effect).
Now to your question Is there any Sattvic Tantra– No tantra is Sattvik, Rajasik or Tamasik, it is your intent that makes it Sattvik or Tamasik. For example is an electricity generator Sattvic or Tamasik? Well, it depends on how you intend to use it – You can use the available electrical energy to irrigate a field, warm a house, run a ventilator, run a MRI scanner and you can also use it to electrocute a person to death. I would prefer to stick to this example to answer your next question as well.
You subtly ask – Is tantra harmful or dangerous to engage in? Now, tell me if it is dangerous or harmful to build, keep and run an electricity Generator? The answer is – In itself it is not but you must follow the rules and instruction manual, listen to expert’s advice on anything you use so that your own mistake do not harm you.
You ask – Which practice I can do? There are many practices to begin with however before any Tantric Sadhana you must strive to attain 5 things – Nadi Shuddhi, Tattva Shuddhi, Indriya Shuddhi, Mana Shuddhi & Atma Shuddhi.
If you don’t understand what are these cryptic terms and how to do it find a teacher who can guide you in this direction. Never! Never try to attempt any practice on your own without being instructed by a Tantra Master. Thank you for your patience for reading it till the end..
Jai Ambe Shri!
