In Patanjali Yog Sutras’ Vibhutipaada and many other places siddhis find mention. Although there are innumerable siddhis that are said to come to Sadhaka through various Yogic and Tantric practices etc. but for those occult siddhis to appear in your life every practitioner should attain some basic siddhis that are very much possible without much of austerity or tapa. The first such siddhi in my option is ‘Capacity to Stay Happy’.
FRUITS OF THIS SIDDHI –
Staying sad, poker faced or depressed is a disease. This must be replaced with ‘Capacity to stay happy’. This Siddhi once acquired stays with you and gives you the capacity of changing the course of life events with your magical smile. With this siddhi in one’s being one is able to bring about transformation in one’s own life and others. Such a person is loved, trusted and is capable of helping people in distress. With this one accomplishment under your belt you feel great power in you and hurdles and obstacles of life are smoothly won over.
PREREQUISITES FOR ATTAINING THIS SIDDHI –
Acquiring this siddhi does not need you to adopt a system of spiritual practice, you don’t have to do 5 Pranayamas, you do not need to master Khechari Mudra or complete Anushthan of any particular Mantra. For attaining this siddhi you don’t have to have purified Nadis or balanced Chakras rather through this active siddhi your Nadi System and chakras will attain the required purification and balance.
For attaining this Siddhi you all need in the beginning is a moderately functional body and an alert mind. Some props and beacons to serve as reminder of you being a Sadhak of this Siddhi.
Now few actionables..
Find a good reason for being wherever you are.
The reason should such that it appreciates the current environment and motivates you to give your 100% in the act you are engaged in. Giving 100% in whatever you do is the key. Even if you are just relaxing and not doing anything in particular then too you must find a good reason for it.. such as the outcome of ‘feeling energized’ at the end of this idleness.
Try finding opportunity for growth in the challenges.
For this you would require an alert mind. Whatever you are stuck with or struggling with – See it as the way of existence to build your, strength, being, and character.
Stop blaming others for anything whatsoever.
For this taking shelter in the Law of Karma will help. Follow the principle in totality – We get what we deserve. We are in complete freedom to check and change our responses but do not have control over others. Therefore blaming is of no use. If there is a problem – It needs solution, not advice or discourse on how it could have been prevented. The prevention was something of past – Respond in Now.
Live a simple life.
Reduce your wants and focus on your needs. Little control over your senses, thus habit of indulgence and capacity to see through the miseries of so called affluent and successful people should help. Happiness is not obtained by being surrounded with what I want rather in my capacity to to enjoy 100% of what I have.
Serve others with ZERO expectations.
Do what you really want to. Don’t do a thing when you don’t want to. Learn to say ‘No’ when you have a better, more important reason that needs your energies and time. You won’t feel guilty or sorry of such occasional refusals if you really have a purpose in life, a genuine reason, a larger goal to accomplish.
You have No Responsibility to make others Happy.
Just as you can not digest someone else’s food the same way you can not help others assimilate goodness from the surroundings. They are free to choose and savour on what the are most comfortable (miserable?) with.
Don’t give others control to make you unhappy.
This one is not tough if you have an alert mind you can easily see that Happiness is an inner environment, that is completely under your control. As such no one else has direct access to that inner space only if you knew how to use the right kind of filters at the level of your intellect.
Don’t search for reasons, just Smile!
This is little difficult in the beginning but it is doable if you persist and don’t give up. Keep using those props of life and living as reminders to smile. The biggest reason is – You still have ‘time’ to smile.
No fixed self-image please!
Many at times we forget to appreciate that life is a dynamic flux requiring us to change our ways and styles. Some people are stuck up with this self-image thing, more so because they are making up this self-image through the collage of images they form in other’s eyes. Don’t spend your life nourishing and worshipping your own image it will eat up most of your energies. It is much better to remain a learner lifelong than claiming yourself to be an authority. Thus when you or someone else errs, you are able to just forgive self or others and move on..
How do you test this Siddhi of yours?
Life will keep giving you opportunities to test yourself for this Siddhi. Watch out for such occasions and respond. Kabir recommends..

Aurahu ko Sheetal Kare Aaapahu Sheetal hoy.
If you just attain the Siddhi of ‘Staying Happy’, you will not have to worry about this advice of Kabir. You shall only express your inner happiness in your words. Such overpowering fragrance will flow out of you.. just so effortlessly.
Sweetness of speech & softness of expressions are the fragrances of this Siddhi.
