Master AD, I am writing from Sydney, Australia. I am 24, a nurse by profession and migrated here from philippines in 2013. I have been following your blogs from long time. These are realistic and inspiring. I had been thinking to take charge of my life. Want to commit my belief and action for something larger than life. Will you please guide me to what resolutions should I carry through this new Year?

I am happy to see some people getting inspiration from words I speak here. Your mail did come on time, well before 31st Dec 2019.. You may also have complaints that I did not reply before 31st and thus you lost the opportunity to take up some sensible resolutions for this year… but the fact is this delay was deliberate.. as I chose to reply it late only to bring out some inherent issues with this whole process of taking resolution on 31st December. I am sure you will draw some realistic points here in. (smiles)
Point number 1, ‘Resolution for the year’ is a facade. Reality IS; Any resolution made in the night is valid only for the next day.. and that too only if one does not forget it in the morning. If you could be careful enough for one whole day; keeping your resolve to do or not do something.. it is truly great! .. It will be greater when you can repeat it over and again in every ‘today’. The stronger should be WILL, so much so that the night in between doesn’t burn down your desire to follow that resolve day after day.. each day.
Keep in mind the resolutions are the life decisions that you have to remind yourself every night, only to follow those the next day.. this goes on till your forced actions become habits and come naturally to you!
Another point is, if you still measure time in dates, years and hours you are missing the whole point. It is not the 1st January of a calendar year that is a new beginning but every morning… no.. no.. no.. Every moment a new reality is unfolding unto us. If we are unable to see through this game of ‘Newness and a fresh start’ that our mind plays with us, we will always lose out to the same mind which we wish to gain mastery on. So if my answering late (i.e. beyond your ill perceived new beginning as 00:00 Hr of 1st January 2020) has swallowed up all your enthusiasm for taking some decisions for yourself only because you feel “The ‘Time’ is gone”.. you would probably NEVER be able to keep your resolutions.
Now to your actual question.. What resolutions you should take. Well, I am replying to your question here on the blog because you are aiming at what billions and billions are people aspiring for.. ‘Taking charge of this Life’. Through this answer, I hope all those will also be benefitted. Just mull over the statement.. ‘Taking charge of our life’.. To some it means mastering the life but there’s nothing tangible that you can call ‘life’ per se. So correct your understanding.. taking charge of life means taking charge of mind. So, what I am trying to give you here is a step by step method to take charge of your mind… rest will follow because when you are in total control of your mind.. you can do what you want and most importantly you discover your real purpose. If I have to give you one resolution that will take care of your body, being, aspirations, emotions, relationships and personal growth all through your life then it can not be anything other than this..
This very moment I take resolve that I shall be a good listener in all circumstance all the time!
“What? Such simplistic resolution!” Well, what do you think? Only if you could practice listening you will know what this world is asking from you. Only if you could listen you would know what are your true core desires. Only if you could care to listen you will have fulfilling relationships. I want you to be a good listener.. to everyone, in every situation! If you begin this simple looking activity you will soon realize that before you can develop the capacity to listen to anyone out there you must learn to Listen to your own self! Do you still think I am giving you an easy task?
To know what one really needs, listen to him fully. You are asking for ready resolutions most likely without understanding your own real needs. You are seemingly acting out of adopted compulsive behaviour.. BECAUSE everyone does it THEREFORE. Most people think that outer life situations decide the choices we make in our lives but that is the biggest myth. Majority of the world is engaged in those jobs what they hate doing. They suffer because almost each one of them has allowed just the outer reasons, temptations or compulsions to influence their decisions, life-goals. They really never knew what they really wanted in the first place? It’s good you are asking but then if I tell you to do without knowing what exactly you want, those answers will be dangerous to your being. Before you take a resolve – ask yourself a question ‘What do I want?’
The answer to your ‘What do I want‘ is hidden in the depths of your own mind. Those feeble voices that go unheard are the life callings that are ready to guide you.. That answer can never go wrong for in those unnoticed voices shines the transcendental wisdom of infinite you. So, be watchful. Lend your inner ears and eyes to these voices that are waiting to be heard from eternity. This watchfulness only means listening!
J, it is easy to pretend to be listening to others but when it comes to listening to what is echoing in our own minds it is not easy at all. It requires patience and self-training. So, give yourself some time each day to listen to the endless chatter that goes on in your mind.. to something that you never really cared about. Through this practice you become open and aware to your mindfield and thoughts that shape or destroy you. As you become open you will be able to see beyond your own doubts.
In the bright light of clarity you will see your unvocalized complaints melting, the mental violence pacified. the futility of deriving sadistic pleasures will become evident, the horrible hurricanes of confusion and anxiety will calm down and in just little over two months you surely come back asking..
