Since many years i’m confused about gods. From childhood i’m connected to lord Shiva, he is the KULA DHIVAM of my parents, I mean my mother’s and father’s. I like to share my problems, my happiness and everything. Heart fully I pray to lord lord Shiva, whatever I ask him, whatever I beg him he fulfills all my requests. But after my marriage my husband’s KULA DHIVAM is lord Venkateshwara. So I’m worshiping lord venkateshwara. But not heart-fully. Even though i’m trying myself that there is only one God but his parts & fragments are different and I am not able to satisfy myself, So tell me guruji what should I do.. i’m sorry guruji that i’m talking about god in this way, but i’m expressing my feelings. Guruji can u tell me something about god? – Vani
In some sense it is the Man who created God and that’s why long time back I had once said “The Man is the creator of the God.” It is true because some people don’t create God and they try living without God – they are termed as atheist. The other variety has not created a God but many Gods. Hindus have 33 crore Gods.
Do you think these many Gods reported in some sort of census call to get themselves registered with some Rishi? Isn’t it amusing to see such an accurate number here.. not one less in 33 crores not one more! And more amusing is the fact that even today people believe these numbers to be 33 crores. Logically, there is no possibility of having a database of 33 crore entries and it may sound foolish idea to have a number but there is a deeper meaning.
Just like in purush-sukta brahmn is said to possess 1000 eyes, 1000 hands and 1000 legs etc. In this case a seer who assessed the world population to be around 33 crore said metaphorically that each human is a God in herself/himself. Astonishingly exactly like mortal men the Gods are also born (or given birth by humans).. In fact every human fetus is a potential God however only few get to reclaim that honor. To prove my point I would like you to recall that in the recent gone by centuries many Gods were born – Bhagwan Rajneesh, Dada Bhagwan, Bhagwan Avadhoot Ram, Shridi Sai Baba.. I am just counting those who happen to have some connection with Jamboodweep.. The list is quite long. Doesn’t it prove the point that Gods are born? They are born every second and fortunately India has highest number of Gods being born per minute (laughs)
Vani, that was one way of looking at the Gods however there is another paradigm. In also meant that each individual has his own personalized God. At that time the seer assumed the population of earth to be 33 crore and thus is told the number of Gods to be 33 crores however if you count the number of Gods today it would be 3 Billion (less the number of buddhists, atheiests and other alike). Where are you stuck up? That personalized God exists in your mind not outside. The form (rupa) of God is nothing but the virtues (dear to you/desired by you) symbolized hence whatever be the form outside you can imagine the same idol to be “your favorite God” be it Aughaddaani Shiva or debt ridden Venkateshwara..
You say “Heart fully I pray to lord lord Shiva, whatever I ask him, whatever I beg him he fulfills all my requests.” Did you pray to only one Idol? Did you not pray/beg/request Him in different places, different Shiva temples.. And if you believed your God to be a person who wears a particular form how can he accommodate himself in various outfits (lingams and vigrahas or idols). If He could come to attend you wherever you prayed and whichever lingam, then by the same logic and bhaava he should be capable of assuming the same space of Lord Venkateshwara vigraha (idol) to present Himself to you to listen to your prayers and take note of your wish-list.
The one common purpose of prayer for most of people is to be able communicate with the creator. and you can continue to use whatever form is closer to your heart. There is no need to change your choices. If you like banana shake over strawberry.. its your choice and no one can challenge it by giving a logic ‘but both are made up of three particles – Electron, Proton and Nutron’. (laughs). Do protect your God, why should you put Him in danger, He needs to live in your mind and heart (if possible). No one should be able to steal your God from there..
John and Jenny had two mischievous little boys, aged 7 and 11. Troubled with their mischief, they contacted a Father from a Church who had been successful in rehabilitating bad children in the past.
Father said he would see the boys individually. The younger seven year old boy was sent to meet with him first. The Father sat the boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is God?”
The boy made no response, so Father repeated the question in an even sterner tone, “Where is God?”
Again the boy kept mum, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face, “WHERE IS GOD?”
At that, the boy bolted from the room, ran directly home, and slammed himself in his closet. His elder brother followed him into the closet and asked what happened.
The younger brother replied, “We are in big trouble this time. God is missing, and they think we did it!”
God continues to be our ‘personal, favorite God’ till we experience Him in totality. For experience take up any sadhana, we offer Tattva Shakti Vigyaan.
