Each one of you know that spiritual journey starts with doubt. When life seems incomplete, purposeless or devoid of any meaning we question our very existence. Our outlook changes for the world and in this new paradigm sometimes a pragmatic change happens. In that heightened logical state of mind we look for answers and solutions to some perennial questions and issues. That is the birth of “Jigyaasu”…. A jigyaasu has so many questions, apprehensions, dilemmas, frustrations and even phases of low self-esteem. At such time he/she needs guidance and support so that this wonderful opportunity is not lost. It is the time when one needs grace more than anything else. Grace is not just a force… which pulls you off your hook.. the materialistic attitude, cobweb of worldly desires and attachment… it is a realm entry to which is guided by an Enlightened Master. Without a Master this journey is really tough job because it is full of pitfalls, obstacles and confusing cross-roads where many seekers just can’t make right choices.
It is sheer luck (blame it to your past journeys) to be able to get in touch with a true Master at such times. But if we run into a Master even accidentally that opens up a road to us, an opportunity to raise ourselves to higher levels and become legitimate receiver of grace. But all that is not simple even after having met a Master and getting engaged in the practices (i.e. becoming a Sadhaka) one is not completely free of doubts and questions, he/she needs continuous guidance. And that is why continuous guidance, warnings and instructions from Master is always needed. You just CAN NOT make this happen on your own.
People don’t need speeches full of metaphors and lucidly woven words on change of attitude or their faulty ways.. they need exact methods. People can’t practice surrender unless they aren’t sure of ‘whom’ to surrender. They can’t have faith until their little efforts get reciprocated in some or other rewarding ways. I can ask you to trust the existence, I can ask you to surrender to the ways of divine, I can repeatedly remind you of keeping your attitude of gratitude, be full of devotion but you are bound to fail unless i give you exact practices. Developing attitude of surrender and gratitude is a great idea… and sure way to become more and more eligible to enter the realm of grace but “How” your mind will ask. Devotion is sure way to attain ‘Grace’ but your mind needs something to feel ‘Devoted’ to. It just cant acquire the tone of devotion without an object of devotion. And that is the very reason traditional methods make use of ‘Gods’ and ‘Goddesses’. St. Paul could surrender to Jesus, Chaitanya and Meera could devote their lives to Krishna. Ramakrishna became a channel of ‘Grace’ himself by surrendering to Goddess Mother ‘Kali’. Thousands and thousands of disciples have ‘attained’ by surrendering to their Masters and the deities their lineage worshiped.
Yes it is true that you need to transcend the Mind to step in to the realm of grace but transcending a disturbed mind, a wandering mind, a confused and scattered mind can NOT be transcended. A wavering mind chains you down to the world, keeps you in the realm of gravity and that’s the reason you need to tame your mind before you can take a quantum jump. It is therefore Dharana (Single Pointedness of awareness) comes prior to Dhyana (Awareness of Infiniteness) and balanced, rooted personal conduct precedes everything. Being aware of the forces beyond the physical realm opens up the gates to the heavens. Heaven – the kingdom of grace is not a physical plane.. it is another vibratory level of existence. Whether Gods and Goddess inhabit that plane or not but you enter that level of existence when you are able to be godlike. You can enter the realm of Heavens being in this human body. But the rule says ‘Only Gods can enjoy the realm of Grace’. So, being godlike is your job… the kingdom of grace comes to you automatically.
How to become Godlike? Befriend with a God, Meditate upon the attributes of a God, Communicate and converse with a God, keep the company of a God – So what if that God is only in your mind! For that matter everything you experience.. it is ‘only’ in your mind. So train your mind to hold the Godliness in all its grandeur and luster. It is said that you become like the images you keep in your mind – You can develop the Godliness still being in this cage of flesh and bone if you can see and feel ‘your’ God everywhere. But that is not possible without having gone through some supporting experiences… Sadhana makes that possible. Special methods which Masters have given help us attain that faith and devotion in the ‘Force’ we worship and dedicate our ‘Sadhana’ to.
You are currently body-centric.. or at the most mind-centric. You will have to learn the methods to go beyond to become the recipient of Grace.
Enough for today..
