Of late there have been many spiritual enthusiasts coming to me with complaints like heaviness of head, headache, tickling sensation in the forehead to the extent which makes one laugh. They also reported facing absentmindedness, feeling lost, lack of sleep and short focus span etc. And it wasn’t coincidence either that almost each one of them was engaged in some kind of meditation, healing practices or trying to awaken the storehouse of power-Kundalini. These people also reported that their complaints don’t subside despite medication and trying alternative healing methods. When our team further probed they discovered that 90% of such people were engaged (either occasionally or regularly) in Third-Eye Meditation. Now, that is alarming!
When we introduce our participants to the world of spirituality and on that path Tattva Shakti Vigyaan (TSV) practices are given some participants hesitatingly ask..
“Ain’t we supposed to do some meditation?”
And they get a reply “No, that’s not required.”
“…umm but we are already doing XYZ meditation'”
“You should stop that!” comes reply.
In fact I have personally seen people getting really uncomfortable on this peculiar suggestion. Some feel as if they are being stripped off some state-conferred honor or as if teacher has suddenly started talking Hebrew. Straight questions like “Why?” do come sometimes and an explanation is offered unfailingly to the curious, courageous ones however some more devoted, accepting and sober ones just somehow either succeed in convincing themselves with the old age logic “Master is always right!” or worse swallow their doubts and move on assuming ‘TSV’ wasn’t as spiritual a thing as they would have wanted it to be. (smiles)
This lecture is directed to those doubtful noble souls who are otherwise taking great interest in their practices and enjoying benefits too but feeling they have been deprived of the benefits of “Meditation” they were (either) doing or expecting to come by in the level-1. And to be able to appreciate and assimilate what I am referring to; brief on authentic sequence of Ashtaang Yog will help. So on the cost of being repetitive listing out the 8 pedestals of Patanjali Yoga. These are –
1. Yama 2. Niyama 3. Asana 4. Pranayama 5. Pratyahara 6. Dharana 7. Dhyana 8. Samadhi
You may be noticing Dhyana (meditation) is penultimate step of Yoga i.e. Technology of self-realization. That means there are some 6 preceding or preparatory steps before you can engage in the practices of Dhyana or Meditation. And any logical person, having scientific temper would agree that to ensure success of the technique (system) one must comply to the processes laid. And all preceding preparatory steps in sequence should be mastered (at least be worked on) before we gets on to next. That jumping the sequence may be deterrent to success..
But this logical view and understanding arrived out of scientific temper is generally not complied by many. In fact when it comes to the “Schools of Spirituality” many Masters prefer to give their students mass out-of-turn promotions. And since there is so much variety and variation in the consciousness levels of students no decision can be said to Completely Wrong! Even out of turn promotion works… Short-cuts also seem to work.. Shaktipaat is a common word in today’s spiritual fraternity.. Students want it and Masters offer it. I am not here to challenge the authenticity, effectiveness of the process nor suggest that a survey agency be deployed to assess the long-term impact of the process of Shaktipaat but what I am essentially wanting to state that not every path is suitable to every one. That en-route spiritual journey, not every second student can be given waivers and out of turn promotion. And that following the step by step approach stands greater chances of progress and success. So if on TSV level – 1 you are being asked to refrain from meditation it has some valid reasons.
Mostly third-eye focus seems to bring in instant results in terms of experiences and that is the reason people are tempted to concentrate on third-eye. Even first time meditators also seemingly report seeing some lights, sparks, vibrant colors during a closed-eyes-concentration session (meditation is a misnomer here) and feel they had some spiritual experience! The fact is – all these colors and lights etc. which are seen during meditation initially are due to elemental energies bursts. So seeing lights and rainbow colors on third-eye does not indicate any spiritual ascension of consciousness but dangers are plenty here.
The Third-Eye centre is known as Agnya Chakra. Agnyaa means Command or order. That means if you wish to give commands to subtle-energies, elementals and demigods in the psychic realm you use this centre. The commands are given through visualization or by creating visual imagery of desired results. Intuitive vision and prophecies are also function of this centre. This point, being a cross-over junction for left and right nadis, this is very powerful chakra (psychic node) in your nadi-system however if your energies are troubled and unbalanced while connecting with this centre, you may find yourself getting entangled in nightmarish series of events in your life. You may find all your fears coming true, unexplained diseases precipitating in your body, absentmindedness, sleeplessness, weird dreams, people getting nasty towards you for apparently no rhyme or reason . Sometimes your disturbed elemental energies are blocked in this area and you start having constant heaviness/headache and even migraine. The worst may hit if you accidently (on the account of not being trained by a master to handle the complicated processes of this chakra) create a psychic leak here. That would make you prone to becoming vehicle/medium for wandering spirits thus leaving you possessed. And that is the reason I warn people to not engage in third-eye focusing unless a. they have balanced their elemental energies in their Annamaya Kosha and Pranamaya Kosha b. have learned to control their thoughts c. they are properly initiated by a Master and have been connected to a Guru-Mandala.
For those unfortunate souls who are experiencing any peculiar issues after having started Third-Eye meditation, I would suggest to stop the practices right away and consult with a Master of the field.
