I prefer to use positive words and thus insist it is ‘rememberance’ Sujatha.
The very first thing about Sri Sri is that he is not interested in your individual spiritual upliftment. He is more interested in giving you a heathy body through some sort of modified exercise-cum-breathing procedure, what he calls ‘Sudarshan Kriya’ and when his Kriya got oversubscribed he has started talking about creating “creating a divine society” which he fondly named as “Divya Samaj Nirman”. Very good work by him and worth admiration but this is not what an enlightened master would be doing. Any person who gets interested in creating a better society, at best he can be a social reformer but a real master, like an experienced physician is not intersted in dispensing generic medicines and vaccines for all his patients- he has to be correct in his diagnosis and then prescription and recommendations follow..
Precisely if you ask me I really don’t care what Sri Sri says about enlightenment. In my opinion he is yet to get it and probably he is still trying the path of unlearning and trying to forget the Transcendental Meditation (TM) which he learnt in the holy company of his master, guru Maharshi Mahesh Yogi.. after all he has to establish his own Sudarshan Kriya. And people must forget TM hence unlearning is the exact word for what he is attempting. (laughs)
Every person be it Buddha, Mahavira, Zarathustra, Gurdjieff.. anyone who has experienced the divine light has found himself filled with light, love and a knowledge which was never known to him. He finds that he is able to see so many colors in this universe. He is able to realize and experience his being rooted in the ulitmate and in all his ways he finds himself as if he has come back home. Even the slightest of this divine spark shows him the way back home.. just like you are in the jungle, clueless in a dark couldy night away from your place.. totally clueless, fearful, wandering and struggling to get back home and suddenly lightening roars above.. the things around you become clear for a moment and you can identify your way back home. It is just ‘rememberance’.. you have gotten your way back home. And the most funny part of this ‘spiritual rememberance’ is that you find that you were falsely thinking that you have lost your way, that you are away from your home.. in fact the lightening happens you find all the while you were right there within the safe compounds of your home. So how do I call it ‘unlearning’?
But he is intellectually right.. probably what he means is that when you unlearn your wicked ways, you get rid of your selfishness you will be able to progress in your spiritual path. But does it happen in reality? Since centuries hundred of thousands of social reformers, preachers and our scriptures are yelling right at your face – but Why don’t you change?
You can not change by sweeping away darkness using a broom.. it is foolishness. Go buy a candle and get hold of a machbox and just another moment this will make this darkness wither away.
The unlearning is not possible in the domain of God.. rather has designed this whole universe in such a way that you keep learning and keep growing to higher levels. In fact you have learned a lot, experienced a lot to be able to come to level of human being. So much understanding and knowledge you have earned to be able to be at the highest of pedstal of evolution..
Learning is a virtue.. our spiritual progress does not stop because we are unable to un-learn but I say it stops because we stop learning. Ask your psychologists and they will tell you that just after your puberty you have stopped learning any new thing. This happened because the spirit of inquiry was dead.. you had most attractive and mystical human toys to play with. So beautifully crafted and so complicatedly programmed that this game doesn’t to come to an end. New toys keep you engaged and you start messing up your life without inquiring. Posing questions..
That is why I always say.. If you have gotten the answer of your question from me then there is no possibility of your growth. The journey has to come to an end then. I would be the last person to do so hence I say.. I invite..
Come! learn the sincere inquiry and you would yourself discover it – what it is.. when you experience it.. it is so consuming.. so vast.. so much beyond your words that you wouldn’t tire saying and singing about it…
Ah! Beautiful.. it is!
