AD, I want to know what is spirituality in ur words? An unmatured mind like me-how follow spiritualism & why follow, means what are the benefits one can get from spiritualism? – Sagarika

Spirituality is smiling innocence!

Spirituality is smiling innocence!

First thing first – There is no need to distort the spirituality by craeting an “ism” out of it. Let it remain spirituality. The world is already sick and robbed of its beauty and peace due to so many “isms”. Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikkhism..; In more recent context communism, nationalism, patriotism and all sort of madness already prevails around you. Are you still hungry for some more “isms”? (Smiles)

All “isms” are group phenomena and created by so called un-enlightened.. the masses who just tried to imitate the ways of all the enlightened ones they got inspired with. The whole beauty of the indivudual gets lost in imitation and the possibilities of flowering of individuals becomes almost impossible because the road that leads to the ultimate, the experience of divine is always rooted in individual’s individuality. His or her uniqueness. So let us keep this spirituality as an abstract quality of a being which opens the doors of infinite possibilities for you.

Sagarika, Spirituality begins with inquiry. Rigorous and consistent.. till the end.. and its culmination is in all the inquiries.. all the questions. Spirituality  is an end to all the “WHYs”. Many times I have been found quoting that spirituality begings with making you human but ends at making you a vegetable. That sounds very pessimistic to some people yet I am here to make them agree that the life a rose bush lives is much better than yours. At least in its life time it gives roses in every season and without complaints waits for its flowers to be plucked and taken away for some service. I have never seen rose bushes fighting over their territories and refusing to yield if they are planted in a territory of so called enemies. Trees do not distinguish between friends and foes.. and dont fight with each other. And trust me if someday any tree gets educated enough to borrow some “ism”…  you can imagine what would be outcome. Some patriotic roses would refuse to flower if taken to be planted in enemy territory. They will start giving speeches and will also develop followers. Reds will gather on one side of the field and will be seen having a rivalry with the Yellows.. and so on. The same chaos everywhere..

The spirituality is getting rid of all your desires for being good. Trust me – no one wants to be good for self. Actually there are hardly any incentives for being good. It is only that admiring look in the eyes of people around you which compells you to be good. Almost every goodness in so called good and noble people is inspired by “I don’t want to be bad.” This is a joke! If you further peel off this shell and ask “why?” you would find that so called goodness is infact is actually a means to an end. Rigorous asking and peeling would bring you closer to the truth and truth is – driver is not goodness  in itself but the associated admiration, holier than thou feeling which is so very common in all saintly people. So next time when you want to be good.. ask yourself why and you would yourself know that it is just a very subtle extension of selfishness.. expansion of finer layers of ego. So spirituality is – Loss of obsession for goodness.

You may feel that as you lose obsession for goodness, you will have no drivers left for your growth… but I tell you. Keep the first thing in mind – Inquiry is an inseparable part of spirituality. It actually begins there and I know that when you can reason enough to not be good you would not find reasons to be bad either. When you don’t want to be good, when you dont want to be bad either.. then understand the first moment of real spiritualy has decended in your life. Spirituality is absence of differentiation.

Anyone who is looking for benefit out of spirituality then there is no way he can begin the journey. There are no benefits of being spiritual… on the contrary you may lose everything you have. But when someone asks about benefits.. it is not out of benovelance – its out of self-interest in benefits. At least I have not seen anyone praying in temple so as his neighbour gets a luxurious life, the best possible comforts. I have seen people people praying for someone’s longer life.. it is not that they are really interested in someone’s benefits. Only deep rooted fear of facing such a situation and ethical conditioning makes them pray for people in devastation. And I would like to be proved wrong – I would want to see a man or woman who prays for a rich neighbour. I have not seen a person asking one for self and two for the neighbour… whenever this word benefit comes out of your tongue.. try finding its roots.. it would be rooted in your selfishness. I know the moment I say this the first cunning twist mind gives is: “I was talking of benefit of all.. the people around me.” But that doesn’t make you insane either. It only proves that spirituality is yet to descend. The spirituality is – death of longingness for benefits.

Spirituality is action originated out of understanding developped through constant fearless-inquiry in self behaviour.. without expecting any benefits out of it. You don’t have to worry about benefits. They just follow.. like life follows breath.. Like grace follows Buddha… And yes finally want to tell you that there is nothing like immature mind. Either it is there or it is not.. and yes, you have it and fortunately too much of it! (laughs)

Enough for today?
